Aha... I like the process... binding the words into the design. I often lay words& wishes under my paint too. Maybe binding isnt the right word... they're not trapped, they add a dimension, evolving with your work... great, eh!

Looking at these headlines in your journal makes my tummy churn. A good way to make people stop and think even if its only for a few seconds. These issues worry me too and I keep thinking why are we not ALL doing something about it when we know we are destroying so much that is of huge value to our survival.

Susan - I'm itching for a clear day and sufficient space to begin a new wet felting project. Right now I have to make felt on our coffee table and it is very restrictive.

Suzi - I like words too, it feels like affirmation or mantra being woven into the essence of the creation For this reason I prefer to keep any words or phrases positive but in this case I think it is detrimental to turn a blind eye to the negativity of the problem. To do so would be allow it to continue and would hinder or ease positive change. I have layered success stories, mission statements and aspirations on top of he horrors before making the painting. I think that leaves the picture stepping in the right direction with the right ethos. Positive change.

Art Propelled - I agree whole heartedly. I think of birds so often these days. It is like they are a natural indicator. If you see them in abundance then there is some health to the area.

Martine - Thank you. 2010 is international year of biodiversity. 2009 was international year f natural fibres. Isn't it fitting that eco art with a biodiversity thee should e made from natural fibres? Lets make felt! x

I loved what you told me about the felted shoes ... wow ... that sounds amazing! The things artists think of! I am excited about the bundle project. I placed my favourite things inside, not just papers and fabrics, so that I hope many projects will evolve from what is left. I particularly hope that colours run and that rust has it's way with some of it ... lovely!

Have a lovely Sunday

I've been concentrating on the same theme - my ICE (International Collage Exchange)works, which I'll post about next week, concentrate on the pillage of the land by my ancestors, the colonisers of New Zealand during the 18th and 19th century...and to some extent, now.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how you interpret these ideas into your felt creations.

La Dolce Vita - I wanted a silhouette of many birds so I chose geese. I always feel like I've witnessed something special when I see geese migrate in formation. I think to see all of our birds in abundance again would feel the same.

Carolyn - The project sounds wonderful. Its good to see people coming back after the busy December time full of energy and new plans. I think we are charged by the blue moon x

Debrina - That sounds like a wonderful project. It strikes me that the earth is still reeling from the Victorian age and before. Certainly many wars and religious conflicts seem a legacy of bygone times. It takes so long to undo what has already been done. One thing that worries me about all of the technology and satellites to the moon etc is that we really don't understand what is happening and what the effects will be until it is too late.

I will keep a eye out for your posts :)

I'm finding the processes you use very interesting and helpful re: ideas for some of the things I like doing too. You're an inspiration! I like the earth tones especially and if I can find enough sea glass I will be able to produce something similar in stained glass for this year's eco focus. May you have a year that brings you joy and fulfillment.
